Oliver Zangwill Again - Day 1
The end of September and I'm back at OZC for the two week assessment. Day one has been hard work and lying here on the sofa now my head hurts (something which didn't really clear until about 9:30pm, even after paracetomol) and my brain is well and truely fried. This despite what was, in reality, a fairly easy day I think. I've learned a little about what the various bits of the brain do, and I've spent some time talking to one of the team about the affect it's had on my communication skills. (The most notable being the way I use the wrong word sometimes. As this often happens when I'm posting on Usenet I'm tasked with digging out some examples to take in tomorrow. Here's one as an example, using "NTL" when I meant "ADSL".)
One of the most interesting parts of the day was meeting the other patients. We had lunch together and were soon swapping details of how we had ended up there. The most common reason seems to be bike accidents, be it pedal or motor bike. It's been interesting to hear how the trauma has affected their lives both directly and also legally, in that most of them have had to grapple with insurance companies and lawyers.
I also discovered that Andrew Bateman, the Clinical Manager, has been reading these pages so he knows what I've been saying about him and his team. This was vaguely disturbing. Why I'm not sure as it's a public document after all, but somehow in my head the web's a different place full of different people. I suppose he'll get to read this too, so hello Andrew!
