A Lightning Strike and a Water Vole

Newer

We went for a walk on both Saturday and Sunday, heading east into the land on the other side of the river. On Saturday we went through Horningsea, took footpaths to Clayhithe and walked back along the river bank. Beth spotted a water vole swimming across a drain and then, when we got closer, sitting outside its hole before it dived in.

On Sunday we walked to Lode and back from a lay by just north of Horningsea (and got slightly benighted for the last mile or so). At Quy Fen we came across this extraordinary memorial stone.

Memorial stone at Quy Fen

It's in the middle of a field at the southern end of Quy Fen (and is marked on the 1:25,000 OS map as "Memorial Stone"). It's about here. Do pay you respects if you're passing that way.
