I've got a new phone. Yeah, yeah, so what? You're always getting a new phone. Well, actually it's a good 18 months since I bought the Moto G dual SIM phone as a grey import from India and I've been looking enviously at Beth's 4G Moto E as it's so blisteringly fast and 4G coverage is getting very good now, often better than 3G. read more ...

Just over six months after I bought and later returned my first Chromebook I'm back on the Google road again, this time with a Dell Chromebook 11" (2014). "Why now? Why that one?" you're asking yourself (well, you're probably not, but whatever, bear with me). read more ...

When I'm walking I don't tend to navigate via GPS (although I do sometimes use one for track logging) as I still prefer a paper map but occasionally it's useful to be able to just double check your location by asking the GPS for the OSGB grid reference. read more ...

Those of you who've been to our house know that the sitting room HiFi is of a great age, something of which I've remained stubbornly proud, not least because I get a great sound out if it. The input components have come and gone... read more ...

I've been thinking about getting a new phone. Yes, yes, I know, it's only been fourteen months since I bought the Motorola Moto G dual SIM, but Beth recently got a shiny new second generation Moto E, at my suggestion, which she's getting on with and which has 4G, which my Moto G doesn't. read more ...

Only a week after writing Chromebook, First Thoughts I find myself writing some closing thoughts on my Chromebook experience as the Lenovo n20p Google Chromebook went back to Google yesterday. The the discovery of a dead pixel (or pixels) on the lower right side of the screen which was the final straw. read more ...

I'm writing this on my shiny new Lenovo n20p Google Chromebook, which I've now had for just over a week. Typing on it is something of a frustrating experience as the keyboard is, to put it mildly, not very good. The whole keyboard flexes when you press a key and unless you press positively it misses key presses. In fact it does even if you do. read more ...

So it looks like Google are throwing in the towel on Google Glass, for now at least. I don't think anyone is very surprised. Even here in nerd city I don't think I've seen a single pair whereas I have seen people sporting Android Wear watches and Pebble watches. I must admit I have been tempted by a smart watch however for me they fail it three ways: read more ...

My trusty old HP Laserjet HP2550L colour laser printer's drum is finally showing signs of coming to the end of its life. I've had this printer since I had a proper job before my stroke in 2002 so it's lasted me a long time and I'm pretty certain that this is the original drum so, as you can tell, it's only ever had light use. read more ...

For a while now I've been mulling over a way of getting myself a portable Squeezebox radio. The background to this is that the core of our house media is a Logitech Media Server (aka SlimServer, SqueezeCenter and Squeezebox Server) running on our house server. All our CDs are ripped onto it as MP3s and we can also listen to all of the BBC's radio output, both live and via iPlayer, plus a vast collection of internet radio from around the world. read more ...
