Magnets, Bulbs and Batteries

»

Magnets, Bulbs and Batteries In the pub last week I mentioned Magnets, Bulbs and Batteries which for me was a classic book but none of them had heard of it.

Today I looked it up on Amazon and first of all discovered why they probably didn't remember it: it was first published 1962 and most of them weren't born for another 20 years!

But was also pleased to see that on the cover there were two children discovering the joys of electro-magnetism: and they were a boy and a girl. Blimey! Very progressive in 1962.

The other thing that's striking, and a little odd, is how chubby cheeked they look. They also look like they're having their fun while still in their school uniforms.

Anyway it was a great book and for me it taught be a lot about basic stuff about how electricity, and magnetism, could be made to work and was one of the first steps on the road to what I am today.
