Industrial Archaeology

Yet more snow today. We drove down towards Settle and went to look at the lime kilns Steve and Beth came across on Saturday on their walk. Fascinating industrial archaeology: you can walk around inside the kilns, especially the big Hoffman kiln1 which is a vast oval shaped construction.

Then on to Settle for fuel, Ingleton for some shopping and back to Settle to stock up with goodies from the Naked Man and Cave & Crag before heading home for a supper of baked potatoes along with left over sauce from previous days' meals.

This evening the snow showers finally stopped and it is now a lovely clear evening outside with very little wind. Cold though.

  1. If you want to know more about this click here for a big photo (1.8MB) on the interpretation board at the kiln. The car park for the site is here accessed via the little road under the railway line opposite the (now closed) paper mill. It's a fascinating place and well worth a visit.
