Ben Nevis

It was a mad idea... a very mad idea. Who thought up that one then?! Ben Lawers was dropped for Ben Nevis. Nancy was to be our guide as she's been up many times. "Crampons & ice axe? Nooo!" she said. I had them with me anyway. And I had my Microspikes to stick on Carin's boots should the need arise. I warned Carin it was going to be a very long day. Don't think she fully understood quite how tiring it was going to be...  read more ...   (10/03/10)

Beinn Narnain

Another stunningly beautiful day made better for the short but worthwhile company of Chris. It's amazing how you meet folk whilst out on the hills, some are grumps, but many are great and you find yourself chatting about hills and Life in general. And this is what happened.  read more ...   (08/03/10)

Too much snow... no really?!

As every kid, big or little knows, you can't have too much snow. No such thing. Well, ummm, hate to tell you but I did. You see I wanted to go and camp out at Ba cottage or Ba Bridge out on Rannoch Moor. It wouldn't be far from Glencoe ski centre where I could leave the truck overnight, and if all else fails I could walk out in the dark if I didn't like it. Ideal! That was the plan...  read more ...   (04/03/10)

Cairn Gorm 2010-01-28

The weather forecast was better than the previous day: winds of 20+mph gusting 35+mph. Much better than yesterday's gusting 50+mph. I decided to go for it.  read more ...   (28/01/10)

Ryvoan bothy, through the woods from Glenmore, 2010-01-27

The weather forecast didn't look great with wind gusting 50+mph so a low level walk was in order. This is just superb. Parked at the end of the road beyond Glenmore Lodge and set off along the track towards the Pass of Ryvoan. The trees in the glen here are fantastic, lichen hangs from the branches and grows around the trunks in the most amazing forms.  read more ...   (27/01/10)

Ben Vane 2010-01-23

Hastily arranged the previous evening Rob, Caroline, and I met at the Inveruglas car park at 10am. After the introductions, as I had not met Rob, and suiting and booting we set off alongside the A82 on the path and turned up the track towards Ben Vane. The locked gate had a kissing gate with a minimal amount of clearance around it and had to take my pack off to squeeze through.  read more ...   (23/01/10)

Walkabout 2010

I have a secret goal; it would be rather amusing if nearing the end of this year I had done so much walking in Scotland, that I was close enough to complete all the Munros. The chances of this happening are slim. Very slim indeed. But without a goal, what is there to Life? I will however settle for just having some cracking walks, a few wee drams, and a bit of decent smoked salmon. This little endeavour is being called Walkabout. Obviously.  read more ...   (09/01/10)

Frustrated

Arrgghhh! I've gradually, over the past couple of days, become resigned to not making it north of the border this week. Which probably means it wont happen until the very end of the month due to the drug regime.  read more ...   (06/01/10)
