A Happier Ending

»

Well as it turned out it all panned out all right in the end after that rather flaky start. Hamilton won the Grand Prix, I had drugs, got some more sleep and felt (somewhat) better and after going shopping at Waitrose (in person, what a novelty) we settled in for a lazy day in front of the fire while eating some of Waitrose's finest comestibles, surfing the Web and (in my case) re-reading Swallows and Amazons which Beth bought me for Christmas, along with the rest of the series, in facsimile first edition hardback which I'd been lusting after for some time.

I thought I'd better make a start on re-reading them all as I'm giving my nephew Jamie my old paperback set. He's already read three and I've just posted him Swallowdale and he's bound to want to discuss the plots of them all when we meet in a couple of weeks from now.

They truly are magical books - I missed out on them as a child and only discovered them as an adult but they're still a marvellous read. Especially for someone who learned to sail in a traditional clinker built dinghy (although admittedly Bermuda rigged not gaff rigged like Swallow).
