Exhausted

»

My niece and nephew, Rachel and Jamie, came to see us today along with their mom, my sister Ruth. We had a fun time but we're both absolutely exhausted now. I don't know how parents cope. I guess you grow into it.

Jamie takes after his uncle. He really is gadget boy. He came with his micro multi-tool and his Lego Mindstorms NXT which is, I have to say, very neat stuff. Wish they'd had stuff like that when I was a kid. He snuck into my study and was very impressed by my dual head desktop PC and even more so when I explained I had four PCs running in here.

Rachel, who's a couple of years younger, is growing up fast now and has really come out of herself since we last saw her only a few months ago. She's also exiting her "pink" phase (the give away was she referred to it knowingly and was gently taking the piss out of herself over it).

They were both a joy to see and we had a great time in Milton Country Park playing on the play equipment, reading the war memorial stone, standing on the sun dial and having an ice cream at the new café. Both of them also got to hold Jake's lead: Rachel in the Park and Jamie on the walk home, so they were both very happy with that.

So a good day.

Now I just need a nap.
