Blocking Content

»

It's been a frustrating day, not least because the video and photo in yesterday's posting don't seem to be accessible to some, but not all, VirginMedia users1 and after a lot of investigation by the good people of cam.misc I'm none the wiser as to why.

And while that's been going on a migraine wiped out a lot of my day, so I spent most of the afternoon sleeping it off.

The one big revelation today was that our web browsing is being censored by VirginMedia based on recommendations by the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF). As a result of which my edit access to Wikipedia is restricted. They're blocking a page on the Wikipedia web site because it was displaying a slightly tasteless '70s album cover by The Scorpions, the album was called "Virgin Killer" and originally featured a naked young girl2.

Where this leaves Blind Faith's eponymous album's cover3 which again is currently shown on the relevant Wikipedia page is another matter but the witchfinders don't seem to have got that far yet.

The world has, as they say, gone mad.

  1. If you're one of them go here to see the best of the two videos on YouTube.
  2. If you want to see it pick one of these image matches on Google - it's all over the Web - be warned however but but the IWF say that it is a potentially illegal indecent image of a child under the age of 18 so by clicking on that link you are, legally speaking "making an image" and that's illegal under the Sexual Offences Act 2003. My browser cache is full of them now of course. Sigh.
  3. Again it's all over Google but the same caveat applies so you probably should click on that either.
