A walk to Lode

»

The forecast for today wasn't good with a stiff breeze giving a fair wind chill over the actually quite mild air temperature and showers. But we went for a walk anyway. To Lode by way of Horningsea on the way out and Bottisham lock and Clayhithe on the way back. A pleasant little walk of 10.4 miles. I've put our route online here courtesy of Google Maps.

And it actually turned out OK. No rain at all and I'd chosen this route to avoid getting bogged down in clag like we did last Sunday. Most of the off road sections were on farm tracks so little or no mud. The only real exception was a section approaching Lode where we, along with a lot of other people it was clear, slipped through the hedge into a set aside field and walked down the edge of that instead.

Although there was no rain there was a lot of wind, which was tedious, especially on the open sections. My new Tilley hat, which I wore last weekend too, stayed on better than my other wide brimmed hats but did require the string to be deployed. It does make me look silly, but not as silly as I'd look fishing my hat out of the Cam.

Talking of which the Cam, which is usually a pretty sluggish thing being a canalised river, was flowing pretty fast. Both Bottisham and Baits Bite locks had their sluices open and were letting a lot of water through and it was pretty high on the level between the two. Apparently the rowing time trials planned for today were cancelled because of this.

No photos today I'm afraid - wasn't really the weather for good photos.
