Amazon have a new programme called Kindle Unlimited which offers you "unlimited access to over 650,000 titles and thousands of audiobooks on any device for just £7.99 a month". Seems tempting, however even a few minutes research reveal that "Unlimited" is a bit of a misnomer.  read more ...

As you may know we host lots of mailing lists at The Hug using mailman, which is pretty much the de facto standard open source solution for such things, and yesterday I saw a bounce from Yahoo! which had rejected an email sent through the list server to a subscriber using a yahoo.co.uk email address. When I first wrote about my new Google Chromecast I mentioned that I'd bought The Newsroom Season 2 from Blinkbox. It cost me £16.99, so £9.76 less than Amazon on DVD so seems like a bargain however I had concerns. As did Beth.  read more ...

One of the advantages of having your own domain is being able to give every company you interact with a unique email address. This makes it easy to quench the flow of spam if they fail to Do The Right Thing™ but it also means you can tell if their customer email data has been compromised.  read more ...
