My trusty Tesco Hudl 2 died a little while ago. It was a bargain when I bought it and was an excellent 8" Android tablet. So I was left looking around for another and, as it happened, Amazon chose that week to launch the 2017 edition of the Amazon Fire HD 8.  read more ...

For a while now I've been meaning to write a blog post about my favourite Android apps, a list which is ever changing, but the failure yesterday of my old friend the Hudl 2 has thrown this into sharp focus ...  read more ...

I have a calendar which I use in place of the standard Google apps to access my Google Calendar. It's called Sunrise Calendar and they have a Chrome app (so it runs on both my Linux desktop and my Chromebook) and an Android app (phone and tablet, including as a widget).  read more ...

Wileyfox Swift I've got a new phone. Yeah, yeah, so what? You're always getting a new phone. Well, actually it's a good 18 months since I bought the Moto G dual SIM phone as a grey import from India and I've been looking enviously at Beth's 4G Moto E as it's so blisteringly fast and 4G coverage is getting very good now, often better than 3G.  read more ...

This is just Google fodder so if you don't have an Android device, Linux and (possibly) a Pebble watch then you probably want to move on.  read more ...

I've been thinking about getting a new phone. Yes, yes, I know, it's only been fourteen months since I bought the Motorola Moto G dual SIM, but Beth recently got a shiny new second generation Moto E, at my suggestion, which she's getting on with and which has 4G, which my Moto G doesn't.  read more ...

Only a week after writing Chromebook, First Thoughts I find myself writing some closing thoughts on my Chromebook experience as the Lenovo n20p Google Chromebook went back to Google yesterday. The the discovery of a dead pixel (or pixels) on the lower right side of the screen which was the final straw.  read more ...

So it looks like Google are throwing in the towel on Google Glass, for now at least. I don't think anyone is very surprised. Even here in nerd city I don't think I've seen a single pair whereas I have seen people sporting Android Wear watches and Pebble watches. I must admit I have been tempted by a smart watch however for me they fail it three ways:  read more ...

So the Google Chromecast that Beth bought me for my birthday has been fun. On Netflix I've now watched seasons 1 to 4 of The Good Wife (some of which I'd seen before, especially the later episodes, but not the earlier seasons) and I'm now trying House of Cards but to be honest ...  read more ...
